Write It - Put It Away

Published by blue636 at 1:23 am under Uncategorized Edit This

In my previous post , I touched upon a huge subject regarding the skeletons in our closets. Anyone would be hard pressed to find an individual in strong disagreement with the idea that negative, even traumatic, past experiences may cause difficulties in moving forward with life. If having a fulfilling and satisfying life seems out of reach because of haunting memories, whether we are aware of their effects, how can they be overcome?

One idea that has been pushed on me, and largely the reason I started writing (in addition to my passion for the art), is putting all our fears, worries, hatred, and all other negative emotions on paper and putting it away. Whether it is typed or handwritten, it may be tremendously beneficial for some to write down their thoughts and to put them away. Symbolically, it can be seen as putting all the anxiety onto something physical, whether it’s on paper or a word document, and stashing it away.

I don’t know why it works, but it does. Maybe it’s not for everyone but it certainly is worth a shot. The act of writing forces one to think, and in doing so, forces one to really consider the topic at hand – more than one would otherwise. When we dig that deeply in order to write about our troubles, it helps us realize the finer points of those issues and can lead to some sort of inner resolve. Once it’s written down, put it away and the feeling of not having to think about it again becomes attainable. It’s there. It need not be thought of because it’s already been given consideration, it has materialized, and it’s been put away. Time to start looking forward.
